Not Remembering, or "History Repeating"

I don't remember what I was doing a year ago today. But I would find it hard to believe that anyone really does, these days. I can hardly remember what I was doing last week. This is our culture of immediacy and forgetfulness. I enjoy this lifestyle, though. I've never really bought into the "those who forget history are doomed to repeat it" mantra.

Coincidentally, I don't remember when I first heard that adage..

What you say about our culture is true. However, I believe that history, in general, tends to repeat itself regardless if we remember or forget our past. This could either be a good thing or bad thing. In one sense, if a bad situation repeats itself it can't be such a positive situation. However, we can learn from what happened in the past and use this information and knowledge to react differently in the new situation.
